Oklahoma Farm Bureau Members Connect with Agricultural Education and Research

Members of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau (OKFB) recently gathered for their Generation Bridge winter event at Oklahoma State University’s Agricultural Hall. The gathering brought together OKFB members of various generations to explore innovations in agricultural education and research while strengthening connections within the farming community.

Exploring OSU’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences

The event centered around a comprehensive tour of OSU’s Agricultural Hall, home to the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS). Participants gained firsthand insights into the cutting-edge research and educational programs that are shaping the future of agriculture in Oklahoma and beyond.

“The Agricultural Hall represents the heart of agricultural education in our state,” said Sarah Johnson, OKFB Generation Bridge coordinator. “By bringing our members here, we’re connecting the practical knowledge of our farmers with the academic research that drives innovation.”

Bridging Generations Through Agricultural Knowledge

The Generation Bridge program, designed to connect Farm Bureau members across different age groups, provided a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange. Experienced farmers shared traditional farming wisdom while younger members brought fresh perspectives on technological advancements and sustainable practices.

During panel discussions, OSU faculty presented research on improving crop yields, sustainable farming practices, and agricultural economics. Of particular interest was a presentation on OSU’s partnership with agricultural institutions in Malawi, highlighting the global impact of Oklahoma’s agricultural expertise.

“What impressed me most was seeing how our local agricultural knowledge is supporting farmers in places like Malawi,” noted Tom Williams, a third-generation farmer and OKFB member. “It shows that Oklahoma’s agricultural vision extends far beyond our state borders.”

Supporting Agricultural Trade and Economic Development

A significant portion of the gathering focused on agricultural trade policies and economic development. Experts from OSU’s Department of Agricultural Economics discussed current challenges and opportunities in international markets, emphasizing the importance of trade relationships for Oklahoma’s agricultural sector.

Attendees also participated in workshops exploring how Farm Bureau members can effectively advocate for policies that support agricultural trade and rural development. The sessions highlighted the critical role of organized advocacy in shaping agricultural policy at both state and federal levels.
